Per a State Health Order from Governor Herbert, all sports and extra-curricular activities have been postponed, including tryouts, practices and workouts, until at least November 23rd. They are making an exception to this mandate for State football playoffs. Here is a more detailed message from the UHSAA:
The UHSAA is also aware of this evening’s State Health Order from Governor Herbert. Association staff will work with the Governor’s Office and the State Health Department to understand the unique impacts to UHSAA activities, including the conclusion of the UHSAA State Football Championships and UHSAA winter activities.
The UHSAA will communicate with member schools as soon as information is available on protocols and procedures moving forward. The safety of students and Utah communities will continue to be paramount to the Association and its member high schools.
For the purpose of winter sports, all winter sport activities and practices will be suspended until at least November 23. This includes tryouts for boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, boys’ wrestling and girls’ wrestling.
For our basketball community and as an athletic department, we encourage student-athletes and coaches, as well as their families to be leaders and examples to others in following the new order that includes limiting casual interactions to those in your immediate family or household, wearing a mask (now a statewide mandate) and maintaining physical distancing while not at home. By contributing to the efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus, we will help save lives and support the efforts of our medical workers and hospital personnel. Additionally, we hope that we will see a significant enough improvement that we will be able to more safely return to winter sports.
Thank you to East Athletic Director Skip Lowe and the entire East Administration for their continued guidance and leadership during this unprecedented time. More information from the UHSAA, SLCSD and the EAST administration and athletic department will be posted as it becomes available.
Thank you also for your patience as we continue to do everything we can to safely navigate these uncharted waters.
Stay safe!!! | GoEAST!!!
